Kathy Dambach | Professor
3D + Ceramics
Kathy Dambach believes that the source of a great work of art comes from within each of our daily life experiences. We each must learn to trust the importance of that information we hold within our experiences. Education is about clarifying these personal insights, finding the appropriate venues and beginning to develop strategies to present these insights to the world to maximize their meaning for all. Both her three dimensional design and ceramic classes are designed to help the student maximize their own access to their personal insight and use it in the creation of their artwork.

Kathy's work in sculptural earthenware installations has been recognized through an ArtServe Michigan, Individual Artists' Fellowship, inclusion in the "21st Century Ceramics In the United States & Canada" as well as many museum and gallery exhibitions throughout the US. Her artwork has also been exhibited in China and Japan and she participated as an Artist-in-residence at Japan’s famous Shigaraki Ceramics Cultural Park. She also lectures and has been featured as a visiting artist leading workshops at schools, art centers and universities in the U.S.

Her work appears in the collections of the Detroit Institute of Art, Detroit, MI; the Columbus Museum of Art and the Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio and various private collections in the US and China.

She served, as President of the board of the Michigan Ceramic Arts Association, has been a Michigan Arts Fellowship panelist, as well as a juror and curator for many exhibitions during her 20 years as educator in Michigan and Philadelphia before coming to FIU in 2004.
